The New Scholars Committee of the Southeastern Association of Law Schools (SEALS) invites the submission of papers for its Junior Scholars Works-in-Progress Workshops. Selected participants will workshop their papers in an intimate discussion group format.
There will be several Works-in-Progress workshops, and papers will be topically grouped. Each workshop will be limited to four authors, all of whom will be assigned a senior scholar who will open the discussion of the paper and provide detailed feedback during the workshop. The goal of the workshops is to provide detailed feedback from senior scholars on early-stage works, and to give Junior scholars the experience of collaboratively workshopping an early-stage work. If selected to present, Junior scholar participants are expected to attend their assigned workshop and read and comment on the submissions of the other three participants in the workshop as well.
Submissions should be an early-stage work of 5-10 pages in length. This may be an introduction or excerpt from a longer paper, an extended abstract, or a précis describing a yet-to-be executed paper concept, so long as it represents work in an early stage of development. Submissions exceeding 10 pages will not be considered. Eligible participants include all untenured professors. Those who participate in the New Scholars presentations are also eligible to participate, but the early-stage work submitted for this Call for Papers must be a different paper than the one submitted for presentation at the New Scholars Presentation.
Please note that participation in this program does not preclude participation in other panels or programs at SEALS, as discussion groups are exempt from the “one panel per person rule.”
The submission deadline is December 1, 2014 and notifications will be made by February 1, 2015. Submissions can be made by e-mailing a copy of your work to email@example.com.
